Dodger - Moving right along...

3/29/2012 - Got the patterns done on Wednesday the 28th, Used the old dodger and did outlines of the 5 pieces on the new sunbrella canvas using soapstone chalk.

 My work room, I did the layout work on a 5'x7' canvas throw cloth on the docks in order to have enough room and to keep the canvas clean...  Could have used a little larger surface, but the docks are only so wide!


So... Thursday 29th I cut the top piece and cut the bow pocket pieces and cut some strips for the skirts that go between the bow zipper pocket pieces and the top.  Edged the zipper pockets added zippers and sewed them to the skirt pieces, sewed the forward edge complete.  Added vinyl to the starboard and port edges and at the zipper pocket ends for reinforcement.  Added elk hide reinforcement at the brace bracket areas.

3/30/2012 - Friday, I cut and sewed the aft zipper pockets, added zippers.  Sewed the pocket pieces to the skirt and sewed the pocket/skirt assembly to the top.   Bound the ends and added zippers all around for the windows.  When it was done, I rushed over to the boat removed the old dodger and fitted the top.  Fit like a glove, looks really nice!  Re fit the existing side windows as patterns, decided on changes for new top design and cut the side window canvas.

Dan and Allison are excited and said they need windows by Sunday!  We had words!

I saw somewhere on the web a photo/drawing of a simple enclosure for sailing vessel cockpit...  Here is the sketch... Hajime looks just like that....  Well not really, Hajime is a '78 Tartan37 hull # 82, and looks nothing like that, but I could see her dressed out in foul weather windows all around! A month or sew ago I went over to Gina's at Sew Far Sew Good in Alameda, CA and Gina helped me make a "dog bone"...  It's the piece of canvas/windows between the dodger and the bimini on Hajime. Gina's stick is really boat cushions and re-upholstery, chairs and the like but she was game to help me with the boat canvas project!  Photos below... Another day...

And what a day!!!   We headed out Saturday 3/3, anchored in Richardson bay overnight and headed out under the gate to sail the Pacific Ocean for a day!  Beautiful day! Oh yes, I changed the top of blog photo to one that I took today! Ballena Isle Marina is getting dangerous, another cruiser run aground today...  Oooo pretty! What exactly is a car bofer?  Jess does this when the motor runs!  Alcatraz...  Breakfast in (well near) Sausilito!  Is that the gate I see?  Ooooo pretty...  Inside, now outside:  Knitting?
